The rain was pouring heavy as the old wooden door of the tavern slammed open, breaking the small talks of the few peole still there this late in the night. At the door, an adventurer with messy clothes and a bag torn apart entered, muttering something.
With a heavy foot, the adventurer wobbled in to the counter, took out her last red vial of healing to gulp in one go. Her blonde hair was tangled, with a few leaves scattered in, and her light armor was not in a pretty state. Other patrons resumed their discussion, confused but not wanting to disturb the newcomer. The tavern’s peole were used to see adventurers in a messy state.
With a heavy sigh, she managed to sit down at the chair and open the conversion with the bartender, a tall muscular lady with red hair. Without a word, she poured her a pint of the local herbeal healing tea.
A : Sorry for the door, I hope I haven’t messed it much.
B : Don’t worry, this door endured the fury of many drunk men, it will survive that slam. Other than that, sorry if I’m too harsh but you seem messed up. You seem to have lived quite the adventure stranger.
A : Yeah, let’s just stay I’m an adventurer looking for a feat to accomplish to make myself a name. And I’ve heard the rumors of the princess of this place trapped by a dragon, and I felt like it was my duty to at least try.
The bartender snircked, she has seen quite the number of courageous adventurers. But few still had that flame in their eyes after tyring the tower. While continuing the conversation, she was pouring a pint of ale for the elf next to the adventurer, who was lifting their eyes to hear the conversation.
B : Oh, that… Every knight that tried to go there so far has failed to save the princess. I’m honestly surprised you managed to survive and got out of there ! Even some of the kingdom’s strongest soldier either died or got out with barely any armor on them.
A : Every knight and adventurer ? That explains the amount of skeletons in that place. I don’t know how I managed to escape. Haven’t seen the dragon, but I feel I was close, I don’t want to give up, I cant. I sure am going back there to give it a new try once I’ve healed up. I’ve got a few gold coins, it I may stay in one room for the night ?
B : Ma’am, you’re persistent, and I admire that. But please heal up first before, here’s the key for the room 3, take all the rest you need. There’s a healer 2 roads ahead the tavern, one of the best of the kingdom, I’ll tell him you’ll be tomorrow morning.
The tavern was the kind of cozy place you’ll go with friends to have a nice meal. Walls of grey brick, dark wood and large tables. Being a place near the sea, the place had the charm of a coastal city.
Even though it wasn’t the fanciest place, it was a place of peace and safety, with a constant floral and herbal aroma engulfing the tavern, due to the multiple aromatic plants that were growing in the back garden.
A : Thanks a lot, I’ll make sure to get a nice rest and see him then. Oh, by the way, not sure if I’m introduced myself, sorry for the rudeness. The name’s Echo by the way.
B : You’re welcome, my name’s Baida on my side, do you need anything else ?
E : No, that’s perfect. I’ll get to sleep to get at least a little bit better before going to see the healer you told me about. Amazing tea by the way, thanks.
As Echo got up the stairs, her right foot hurting from the recent catastrophic adventure she survived. Once in the room, she collapsed on the bed and slept almost instantly, falling into a deep slumber.
Back at the tavern, the bartender was chatting with the elf, the healer’s student, Mivvh. A young blonde elf who’s a frequent at this tavern after their day working with the healer.
M : Wow, she’s sure seems messed up, I too am surprised she crawled out of there alive. I mean, if even the king’s right hand couldn’t get out alive, she’s either a liar and never got here or she’s very lucky. But judging by that char scar on the neck and the burnt cloth, my guess is she may have the talent to finally free her.
B : Only time will tell. I mean, she looks like a persistent hero, ,that’s for sure, it’s been actually a while since anyone survived and came back here. Even then, I still think it might take a while to save her, I must remind you the power of that dragon and the many creatures that inhabits that tower.
M : True. But it’s been so long, almost two years isn’t it ? I’m starting to wonder how the princess manages to survive for that long.
B : Well, to be fair, it’s better to be kept by a dragon than by any of the bandits, at least dragons won’t hurt the people they kidnap.
M : Couldn’t agree more, but still, do you think she’ll manage to beat the dragon ?
B : What do I know ? Maybe this dragon is on an other level, maybe all the knights of this kingdom are more bark than bite in terms of power.
